Chamber of Advocates elects new Council (2026–2029) The Chamber of Advocates has constituted its new Council following the recent elections. Members have been assigned their roles and portfolios for the 2026–2029 term. The Council is composed as follows: At the Council’s inaugural meeting, President Dr Louis DeGabriele set out the priorities of the Chamber for the three-year term. The Chamber remains committed to strengthening the legal profession and safeguarding advocates as a pillar of the administration of justice. A principal priority is the long-overdue enactment of a comprehensive law to regulate the profession, which will provide a modern regulatory framework for legal practice in Malta. The Council will also advocate for a statutory framework governing professional indemnity insurance and the limitation of professional liability, bringing Malta into line with recognised international standards. Congratulations to the Newly Appointed Magistrates

Tfakkira lill-Membri / Reminder to Members

Il-Kamra tal-Avukati tfakkar lill-membri tagħha li d-direttiva maħruġa ghadha fis-seħħ. Għaldaqstant, l-Avukati huma mitluba jastjenu milli jagħtu servizzi legali relatati ġewwa l-Qrati skond id-direttiva, nhar it-Tnejn, 22 ta’ Ġunju 2026. Il-membri ghandhom jiffurmaw lill-klijenti taghhom li huma ghandhom jattendu ghas-seduti u li ghandhom jiffurmaw lil gudikatura illi l-avukat taghhom qieghed isegwi d-Direttiva tal-Kamra u li ghalhekk mhuwiex se jattendi. Il-Kamra tispera illi l-membri jikkooperaw f’din il-kwistjoni ta’ importanza fundamentali għall-professjoni legali u għas-saltna tad-dritt. The Chamber of Advocates reminds its members that the directive previously issued remains in force. Accordingly, Advocates are requested to abstain from providing legal services on Monday, 22 June 2026. Members are to inform their clients that they must attend for their court sitting and that they are to inform the judiciary that their lawyer is following the Chamber’s Directive and that therefore he/she will not be attending.

Stqarrija tal-Kamra tal-Avukati

Il-Kamra tal-Avukati giet a konoxxenza ta’ fatti dwar sorveljanza, monitoragg, intercetazzjoni u recordings ta’ konversazzjonijiet privilegjati bejn avukati u klijenti fil-facilita korrettiva ta’ Kordin u b’daqstant hadet il-passi elenkati fil-Prostest Gudizzjarju hawn anness li gie prezentat fil-15 ta’ Gunju 2026. The Chamber of Advocates has become aware of facts regarding surveillance, monitoring, interception and recordings of privileged conversations between advocates and clients at the Corradino Correctional Facility and has taken the steps outlined in the attached Judicial Protest filed on 15 June 2026.
